Anna Cody Latest News & Updates

Team Cody Girl Racing is welcoming in the 2008 racing season. We have many exciting things planned for 2008; we will be competing in 2 separate off-road racing series, Best in the Desert (BITD) and Score International off-road racing (score).

First, we would like to extend our sincere thanks for the support that our sponsors have given us. Without their generous sponsorship, it would not be possible for our team to attend each of these races.

The 2008 race season begins with Cody Girl Racing competing in BITD series, consisting of 6 long distance off-road team races. These races will be held in the Arizona and Nevada desert, with the shortest being 250 miles and the longest being over 500 miles. We will be racing in the open expert class, riding a Honda CRF450X. The team riders for the BITD series will be: Anna Cody, Stacy Doerksen and Tricia lane.

The 2008 race season continues with Cody Girl Racing competing in three score events in Baja Mexico, including the San Felipe 250, the Baja 500, and the granddaddy of all desert races, the Baja 1000. We will be racing in class 20, riding a Honda CRF250X. The team riders will be: Anna Cody, Stacy Doerksen, Cathy Duncan and Sarah Kritsch.

This past year I attended a pediatric brain tumor foundation organization ride for kid's road ride event. I watched as these wonderful road riders took these special children for a motorcycle ride, some in side cars, some on bikes, trikes, you name it. I watched from the sidewalk taking photos, every child had a smile from ear to ear; nothing could take that moment from them. Over the last half year I thought about that day, what I could do to help, I don't ride street bikes, but I do ride off-road motorcycles, so why not ride for kids while the team races the rugged Baja.

Team Cody Girl Racing is excited to announce that the team will be helping to raise money for the pediatric brain tumor foundation while racing the three score Baja events. The pediatric brain tumor foundation is dedicated to supporting the search for the cause and cure of childhood brain tumors. They are the largest non-governmental funder of brain tumor research in the world relying on generosity of individuals to fund the research that is saving children's lives. For more information, or to make a donation please visit our fundraising page at FirstGiving.com

We are looking forward to a great 2008 season; at this point we are the only all female off-road motorcycle racers competing in both the BITD and the score series. My goals for this year are to be a strong leader, keeping the team safe by providing them with the tools to do so, obtain our fundraising goal and to win the class champio
nship in each series

SUMMARY OF THE 2007 RACE SEASON
June 2, 2007 Baja 500: Anna, Jennifer Morton and Stacy Doerksen successfully competed and completed the race. The team raced in the pro class 21 and finished 14th against 29 all male teams, they were the only all woman's team entered in the race on motorcycles. The race was a flawless race with no problems at all, finishing well before dark and in front of the Trophy Trucks.

August 24, 2007 Vegas to Reno: Stacy and Anna set out to race Vegas to Reno, the team was short after one rider pulled out of the race. This is the longest off road race in the US, so between the two, it was going to be at least 14 hours of racing ahead. Stacy started the race riding the first 19 miles nothing but rocks and silt, at pit 1 she handed the bike off to Anna who rode to Pit 3, Stacy took over again riding to pit 5, after the 2 successfully got the bike out of Amargosa Valley, the roughest and siltiest part of the race, it seemed to be clear sailing for the 2. Anna took the bike to pit 8, Stacy rode to pit 10, when she came into pit 10, things were taking a turn for the worse, the bike was sputtering and running poor, after a quick air filter change, Anna took over hoping to that the air filter change would have helped, however the bike seemed to be running worse, Anna pushed onward keeping the bike going at about 3/4 throttle the bike seemed to smooth out, 13 miles out of pit 10, Anna came across a downed rider, it was a very bad crash stopping to assist, but unfortunately after about 20 minutes and countless efforts of CPR, the young man lost his life. Anna moved forward to pit 11, in a state of shock in disbelief handed the bike off to Stacy, the bike would not start at pit 11, the pit crew pushed Stacy down the pits and the bike started and off she went, Anna got in the car and headed for pit 12, where she would take the bike to the finish, Anna sat in the car in complete shock, trying to decide if she go on or not. At pit 12 the team waited and waited for Stacy but she never came in, by this time several trophy trucks railed by, around 10pm we finally go word from a Quad rider that Stacy was broken down, everyone was so relived that she was ok. The team waited until 4:30 am to finally get the bike out of the desert. The valves on the bike tightened up and we DNF'd the race due to mechanical problems.

October 24 hour Glen Helen Endurance race: The team consisted of 6 women racers, Tracy Conley, Tricia Lane, Sarah Kritsch, Cari Sher, Stacy Doerksen and Anna Cody. It seemed to take everyone a few laps to adjust to the 450, after a idle adjustment, a few crashes and problems the team seemed to get things worked out for the night that lay in front of them. Tracy had a major crash in the dark, she was able to get the bike up and brought it into the pits, after some minor adjustments Anna, Sarah and Tricia took over for the rest of the night, in the early morning hours Cari got back on the bike and turned some amazing lap times. Tricia, Sarah and Anna were tired and worn out by daybreak, and were relived to see Cari get back on the bike. From 6 am until the finish at 10 am the 4 women took turns on each lap, and finished 2nd place in the women's class.

2007 race season has come to an end, it was a rough year for many. We are glad its over and looking forward to our 2008 race season with many changes and exciting things to come
